"Emotions and the single parent - how to get back on top of the game"

PART TWO OF A TWO PART SERIES

In the first article we dealt with emotions and how they can get the better of you. This is so true of many of us. If you are a single parent you know how hard it can be to deal with a situation where your children are pulling at you on one hand and your job is pulling at you in another hand.

This is sadly normal for most of us we are always caught in a whirlwind of emotions from all directions. So what do we do and what can we do about this. Well take heed I hope to be able to offer a few suggestions that should help you alleviate this situation.

Okay so here you are again you want to go on a date with someone new and your children are giving you the gears about leaving them at the babysitters. Sound familiar for many single parents who are dating it probably does.

In this case you feel your emotions are going to explode. What can you do well try this take a deep breath first off. This simple technique takes in more oxygen to the brain and allow you to function better.

Now lets prioritize here are you important in all this. The answer should of course be yes. So its time to tell you children that going on a date does not mean you are going to abandon them. Most often it is the fear the have the greatest of is the fear of abandonment. They have already been through a divorce and do not want to be abandoned again. Let them know you will be home by such and such a time and maybe even offer them a special treat when you go out on a date.

This way they begin to possible look forward to your dates as they expect a special treat and thus do not put up such a fuss on future dates.  Thus you feel more relaxed on your date as well.

Another option is simply not to tell them you are going on a date but simply going to visit a friend for a while. Thus they are not worried and you can have a few dates with your new partner before you can start mentioning him to the family. The key is to remember to break in your children slowly and gently here. So as to give them time to grasp that mom or dad may have someone new in their lives as well.

These are just a few tips, which we have now. But in the future on the web site we are going to be setting up a members only site which will have a multitude of items available for use to help you the busy single parent out with your life.

See you next week.

Wishing you love and romance,

Patrick Watson
